What pushes the price up or down

Two houses with the same number of cameras can differ by thousands. These are the things that actually move a CCTV quote:

Cable runs and roof access

This is the single biggest variable. A face-brick double-storey with a sealed roof takes far longer to cable than a single-storey with an accessible ceiling. Long runs from the DVR to a back corner of the property add both cable and labour.

Analog vs IP

Analog (Turbo HD) runs on coax and is the affordable route our 4-camera analog kit is R4,999. IP runs on network cable, gives you higher resolution and AI detection, and costs meaningfully more the equivalent 4-camera IP kit is R27,705. For most homes analog is genuinely enough. IP earns its price on business sites, or where you need to read number plates or faces reliably.

Number of channels, not just cameras

A 4-channel DVR caps you at 4 cameras. If you think you'll add two more next year, an 8-channel recorder now is far cheaper than replacing the DVR later.

Storage

Every kit above ships with a 2TB surveillance drive, which gives roughly 7 - 14 days of recording on 4 cameras at standard settings. More cameras or higher resolution means less retention upgrading the drive is inexpensive at the point of install and awkward afterwards.

Power backup

Cameras are useless during load shedding without backup. Budget R6500 for a UPS that keeps the DVR and router alive. Solar or battery cameras sidestep this entirely and are worth considering for outbuildings and plots.

Distance

We cover a 50km radius from Benoni at no travel charge Boksburg, Kempton Park, Springs, Brakpan, Germiston, Edenvale and Alberton included. Beyond 50km we add R5/km.

Is a cheap kit good enough?

Often, yes and we'd rather tell you that than oversell. Here's the honest split:

A R4,999 analog kit is fine when… Spend more when…
  • You want general coverage of a normal home
  • Cameras sit within 30–40m of the recorder
  • You mainly need to see that something happened
  • The property already has coax you can reuse
  • You need to identify faces or read number plates
  • It's a business, warehouse or premises with stock
  • You want AI alerts that ignore cats and shadows
  • You need audio, or to speak through the camera
  • The site is large, remote or has no power at the perimeter

The one thing we'd never cut: the recorder and the hard drive. People save a few hundred rand on a cheap DVR and then discover the footage they needed was never written properly. Every kit we sell uses genuine Hikvision recorders and surveillance-rated drives — ordinary desktop drives are not built for continuous writing and fail within a year or two.

Frequently asked questions

How much does CCTV installation cost in South Africa?

A complete 4-camera system costs R4,999 for the kit and R6,399 fitted. Eight cameras start at R7,850 for the kit. Standalone installation is charged at R950 for the first hour and R550 per hour after that.

What is included in a CCTV installation price?

Our kit prices include the cameras, the DVR or NVR, a 2TB surveillance hard drive, the power supply, 100m of cable and all connectors. Installation covers mounting, cabling, configuration and setting up remote viewing on your phone.

How long does a CCTV installation take?

A standard 4-camera home installation takes 4 hours. Eight-camera systems and double-storey properties typically take 6-8hours.

Is analog or IP CCTV better value?

Analog is better value for most homes a 4-camera analog kit is R4,999 versus R16,800 for the IP equivalent. IP is worth the difference when you need to identify faces or number plates, or want AI detection that filters out false alarms.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Site assessments and quotes are free within our service area around Benoni. The R850 call-out fee applies to repair and service work, not to quoting a new installation.
